Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT) is one of the most effective approaches that successfully addresses marital distress, infidelity, and history of trauma in a relationship. Emotionally Focused Couples Counseling (1 hour and 50 minutes sessions on a weekly basis) is condensed therapy for couples who experience distress in their relationship and want immediate and lasting results.

Average Length of Counseling
Usually, the average length of couples counseling is about 10-12 sessions. However, each couple is unique, so the length of marriage counseling can be different for each couple and is based on a couple’s needs.
Oftentimes, couples Counseling can help resolve marriage problems in 6-12 sessions. However, if one or both partners have a history of trauma or have more challenging issues, it may take up to 20 sessions.
I encourage couples to commit to marriage counseling for total 10 sessions to achieve positive lasting results – the first 6 sessions on a weekly basis, then about 4 sessions every other week and then once a month for a few checkups.
Weekly sessions prove to be best for creating momentum for positive change. Couples also report that weekly sessions are effective in helping them break free from a negative communication cycle and rebuilding a loving connection.
